Welcome to The Collective…

“Yoga is not a feel-good practice, it is a face-the-truth practice”. - Indu Arora

Hey y'all, I'm Steph, creator of The Black Unicorn Collective. My wellness journey began like many, I was in search of a way to experience and unite my spiritual learning with my physical being. While I was a student of yoga, I was not a devoted student, though, after some life-altering events, I devoted myself to practicing yoga consistently, through that devotion to my yogic journey, I found my way to a 200hr and 300hr teacher as well as Yoga Nidra and Tantric Meditation trainings to deepen my Yoga practice. It is from that foundation that I practice and offer classes under The Black Unicorn Collective.

Black Unicorn Collective was created to honor the work of the Black women who came before me and from whom, I have learned, and gained so much. Audre Lorde urged us to recognize that caring for our emotional, mental, and spiritual selves is an integral part of resistance against societal injustices underscoring the profound connection between personal well-being and social justice.

As Indu Arora has said, “Yoga is not a feel-good practice, it is a face-the-truth practice” that is the energy of Black Unicorns. Embodying Lorde's wisdom and the tenets of other Black feminist & womanist luminaries is the foundation of The Black Unicorn Collective and guides our wellness practices and offerings. We embrace the diversity of self-care modalities and honor the intersections of our identities. Whether through meditation, community building, or creative expression, we reclaim our narratives and redefine wellness as a collective journey that reinforces the importance of intersectionality, and inclusivity in celebration of our uniquely human selves towards empowerment.

“What we must do is commit ourselves to some future that can include each other and to work toward that future with the particular strengths of our individual identities. And in order for us to do this, we must allow each other our differences at the same time as we recognize our sameness.” —Audre Lorde
